The Biking

There are 3 renowned ways of ascending Mont Ventoux and We are located just 12 km from the closest of the start villages, Malaucene. The classic Tour de France climb from Bedoin is only 24km away from here. The 3rd most popular way from Sault is just over 40km away and is a beautiful ride to the north and east of the Mountain through the Toulourenc valley with it’s spectacular views of the steeper northern face of Mont Ventoux. To see the gradient profiles of each of the 3 popular ascents click here.

One of the fantastic things about cycling here is that we’re not just about riding Mont Ventoux. The Baronnies hills to the north and east of Mont Ventoux offer fantastic cycling on quiet roads with beautiful perched villages which are ideal for café stops. If you want something a bit more challenging Craig’s 10 Cols ride is a must. A 140km jaunt into the Baronnies hills doing a circuit of the 1600m Montagne d’Angele.

There is also the 1300m Col de Perty just to the east. This was used as a category 2 climb in the 2006 Tour de France. This is the quietest part of our region with car free days always possible.
To the west of us and Mont Ventoux are the Dentelles de Montmirail Mountains with their spectacular limestone cliffs and perched villages.
The stunning Gorges de la Nesque is located to the south of Mont Ventoux between Sault and Villes sur Auzon. The gorge is part of our 110km Tour du Ventoux ride which is a must do for anyone who visits this region.

Lots of new tarmac has been laid down during the last 12 months and in general the roads are almost perfect.
If you come from the UK You might notice that the attitude of the local motorists is slightly friendlier over here. Remember this is a cyclist’s paradise, motorists are used to groups of cyclists on the road and give you room (by law they have to give you 1.5m) but not only that, cycling is the national sport and  shouts of “Courage” from an open car window are not uncommon.
